Samson

Portland is home to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry which currently has a T-rex skeleton on display. Devon loves dinosaurs so we thought he would I enjoy it. It was amazingly big and then you think about adding muscle, fat, nerves, etc.... that was one big scary dinosaur,

Done!

I am now the proud owner of 2 new skirts made entirely by me. I finished my hems tonight and I am quite proud of them. I am definitely going to have to come up with a better way to hem and fit things (considering making a duct tape dress form) as it's hard to make alterations while wearing the item.

Also hard to take a picture of the finished product, full length mirror is now on my needs lists. As you can probably tell I am standing on our ottomans using the mirror above our fireplace to take a picture. Those came out better then the ones from on top of the toilet. :)
The dotted one needs to be washed a few times so the layers will fray properly. And I am now in need of a new shirt to wear with my skirts. I am very proud of them and I really enjoyed the time I spent working on them.

March

It is hard for me to believe that March is only half over. It has been a very busy month for us. Although it seems like lately Darren and I are constantly commenting on how busy life has become. I'm beginning to think the first sign that your kids are really growing up is when you no longer count down to events because they come so close together. Instead you try and cherish the few moments of rest you get in between all the craziness of everyday life.

From March 2010

March for us has meant a trip to Mesquite (see previous post), playdates, a kernel developers get together on our back deck (which I forgot to take pictures of - bad me), ward variety show, Eagle court of Honor, Darren's b-day, a sick baby, a friend's b-day, swim class, and as much work on the house as Darren can fit in.

Devon has been struggling will all the many an varied changes to our schedule. I realized as I typed the above list how often his schedule has been thrown out of whack by other events, especially his beloved bedtime routine.

Perhaps Mommy needs to work on being a bit more patient with him. He really is a very good boy with very strong opinions which he is not afraid to voice. When he is mad he is so very, very mad, and he lets you know exactly why. But when he is happy he is just such a joy to be around. If only I could always keep this smile on his face.

Abi is mobile, need I say more. The girl has gone for army crawl to full crawling and she is nearly impossible to keep up with (I think she may even be faster then Devon was as a baby or maybe I'm just slower). She is constantly underfoot, or pulling on my pant leg to be picked up. That or she has disappeared completely and then you know she is really into mischief.
From March 2010
She has been pulling herself up to the ottomans quite a bit also and I don't think it will be much longer before she is attempting her first steps. As you may notice form the pictures she has finally gotten some teeth. She now has 4 total. The 2 on bottom came through in February and the 2 on top have both come in within the last 10 days. Now she is constantly grinding them or clicking them together, it must be such a strange new feeling for her. Here is a picture of my beautiful little girl.

And here our my two crazy kids - can you tell how much Abi loves her brother. They have just recently started being able to really play together and it is very fun to see. I think they might even be best friends one day.
From March 2010

I have spent the month working on my sewing. Darren has built a picnic table and has been working on his shop, even acquiring a few more tools. Life has been good to us. Much as dislike the craziness of our days sometimes, we are extremely blessed. I am trying to be better about enjoying the little things in life like having my kids dog pile on me.

Someday I'm sure to miss these long days and wonder where the years went so I'm trying to make some good memories.

Mesqutie

We made a trip to Mesquite to visit my family the first week of March. Devon was so excited to finally be "going to the desert" and was very ready to see Grandma & Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. It was a fun trip. Devon loved going swimming, bowling, playing video games, and just getting royally spoiled. I think the highlight of the trip would have to be either swimming or getting to play Uncle Ron's drums. You can see pictures of him drumming away in the slide show. He was such a happy boy and he kept at it for quite a while.

Abi seemed to enjoy all the extra attention although she didn't like to lose sight of mom or dad. She especially liked that everyone felt sorry for her trying to crawl around in a dress and so they kept stripping her down to her diaper - she was in heaven. :)

Fabric & sewing fun

From Sewing 2010

My anxiously awaited material arrived at the end of February. I ordered it from Fabric.com and it was quite easy to order but the weeks wait while it was mailed form Georgia was hard on me as I really wanted to start making some clothes. When the material arrived I washed it all carefully and then spent the next couple of nights ironing it all out. Finally I was able to start cutting out my fabric. It was actually a bit hard for me to cut the fabric, I just like it so much and I didn't want to ruin it. Once I got it cut I took scrapes with me to JoAnn's so that I could pick out thread, zippers, buttons, etc. I also realized that I was going to need a special concealed zipper foot for my machine so I got online and ordered it. I started working my 2 Barcelona Skirts first and hoped my new sewing foot arrived before we left on our trip to Mesquite.

The above is a picture of the layered Barcelona skirt & then I am also making the A-line out of the red and cream material. Both skirts are lined with the muslin. (The denim is for some jeans I plan to make.)

I got as much as I could done but my new sewing foot did not arrive before our trip so I had to take a break. When we got back the foot had arrived and I excited opened the package to find I had been sent the wrong foot, ugh. By this point I was anxious to make some more progress so I bought the foot locally and spent $19.00 on it instead of the $6 I found it for online, but I was able to start sewing that evening. I put my first ever zipper in and it came out beautifully.

All that is left now is to hem the a-line skirt and my first one will be done. I am loving my new machine. It just purrs and is so easy to work with making my stolen sewing hours so much more fun as I can actaully feel that I accomplish something every time I work, instead of fighting my machine. This girl is very happy. And as soon as my skirt is finished I'll post a picture of me wearing it.
