2010 Goal

So I have been on a personal crafting kick recently. I have become less scared to try new things 1) because even if they turn out badly I learn, 2) no matter how they turn out i get some much needed alone time, 3) my brain gets something other then kids, cleaning , & what to make for dinner to dwell on 4) I love the creating something new. I took a sewing class a couple of years ago & although I learned a lot and loved the class my end product was not wearable. The shirt which I picked to make ended up being to tight in the chest, to low cut, to wide around the neck, the shoulders were almost non-existent, and even if I dared to wear it would limit my arm movement almost completely.

I have avoided clothing sewing for a while but I am finding more and more I'd like to be able to adjust my garments a bit or make a stylish shirt that is also modest. Thus my obsession lately with pattern shops especially Amy Butler and Meg McElwee. I have made a couple of Meg's apron patterns and I "LOVE" them, but I am still a bit hesitant about clothing.

I received for Christmas aPattern fitting book from Devon. The very first page describes the importance of choosing the right pattern size and the fact that choosing your pattern size based on bust measurement often results in "gaposis" - gaps in the neck, arms, & shoulders (all the problems I had). So now I have hope that I can make clothes that fit with a little extra planning.

So my 2010 goal is to slowly work my way through the book and make at least 1 (hopefully more) pieces of clothing that are not only stylish but modest. Today I had Darren help me get my measurements. I also found an old pattern I have that I never tried (I think I even have material I purchased for it) that I can start working on. I'll probably be posting more of my sewing adventure as the year goes on. But I am ready for the new year.

You are very brave and tenacious! Good luck to you! I don't think I could attempt to sew myself any clothing. I've been thinking of sewing something for Alanna though. Maybe this will be the year :)
