Things I learned this Halloween….

Darren had a conference trip to Europe this year and I got to do all the Halloween fun on my own as he got back from his 11 day trip at 8pm Halloween night. (Note I have never been a big fan of Halloween but Darren, Dvh3, and Doodle all love it.) Also for some reason this is the first year we didn't buy costumes. Doodle loves Minnie Mouse and so I had the grand idea back in May to make her a red and dress with white polka dots and dress her up as Minnie Mouse. Dvh3 decided that he wanted to be a robot but not just any robot he wanted to copy the homemade look of the robot in the video game Costume Quest. So he drew up on paper how he wanted it to look and then we attempted to make it. Thank goodness Darren helps get the body created before he left because painting it, creating wings, figuring out reflectors, attempting arms and legs, and making last minute pants and shirt out of Doodle's curtains was a bit much for this Momma.

But I digress. The things I learned this year are 1) Painting pumpkins instead of carving is not any cleaner or safer with my children. 2) At 8 and 4 they are not old enough yet for me to forget to put the candy up high after they have gone to bed - if left out they will have candy for breakfast. 3)Doodle does not like Nerds and feels it necessary to aggressively kick the little tiny buggers everywhere - perhaps so they don't jump up into her mouth an force her to eat them. 4 vacuums later I am still finding them. 4)Those kids can move when they have incentive. This is the first year we didn't spend 2 hours out trick or treating the 2 cul-de-sacs near us. We were late/slow with costumes and only had a half hour to trick-or-treat before heading to the airport to pick up Daddy. They made it to almost all the houses in that little tiny half hour window. 5)Halloween should definitely be a 1 day thing. Between our church Trunk-or-Treat on Tuesday night, School parties on Wednesday, and then actually Halloween on Thursday they were in candy overload and definitely need to get back to a "normal" routine.

All in all it really was a good Halloween and the best treat of all was getting Daddy back.
